Would You Wait?
There is an instance in a hockey game where time holds its breath and holds its breath and waits. The moment where you aren’t sure if it was a goal or not. Time will stretch and then snap. The anticipation is so thick in the air you can practically taste it. That edge of your seat, gripping your neighbour, stomping the floor tension that you willingly throw yourself into.
Now imagine you sat in anticipation for Jesus’s return the same way you wait to see if it was a goal or not. Imagine that every time you waited for the presence of the lord to be made known to you, you did so with the same passion. What if we applied that level of patience, longing, anticipation, focus, and excitement to the way we look at Jesus?
If we looked at Jesus the way we wait to cheer for a goal, wouldn’t the moment He comes be that much sweeter? Would that not insight joy in the hearts of all who were to bear witness. Would that not light a fire that would be without ceasing. Would that not create a culture of excitement that surrounded waiting for Jesus. Would then the climax of seeing the very face of the one that saves not be the ecstasy of this life?
Because the moment you see the face of the Beloved is ecstasy; the ecstasy of the human existence. We are all looking for that moment, the one that changes everything, the moment where the cross becomes the realest thing of this world. Where everything could cease but the cross would remain. The moment you see the face of the one who paid a price so steep it will never be paid again, his eyes alone will stop you in your tracks, but his face oh his face if you can bear to look you will never be the same.
If you can look into the face of the saviour of the world and believe yourself unchanged oh the hubris you must experience. To believe yourself unchanged would be to say that He is not the great I AM.
I am blown away. This is captivating and beautifully written, while being completely true! You have such a gift for expressing your heart through words and creating pictures for all of us to imagine so clearly. xoxo
