A letter to My Dad

For valentines day (which yes I know was months ago) my family gave each other encouragement and this one was for my dad.

I'm slow writing this week so I thought something was better than nothing, hope you enjoy!

Dear Dad, 
My dad, my protector, my love and my dear. You have alway been there to hold my hand and to push me into pools. You know just what to say even if I don’t want to hear it.
You have always encouraged me to chase my dreams, to fly far and wide but above all else to love others the best I could.
You sat and cried with me when all i wanted to do was love my friends and you told me It will all be okay when it felt far from it. 
You are the strongest, bravest, most curagest lover of God and all those around you I’ve ever known. You adopted all my friends into your heart and hugged them when they had not known what a good dad is. But you never forgot to tuck me in and say I love you. 
I’ve never been good at writing about happiness but writing about how much I love you I seem to have forgotten all the words. 
Your pursuit of your dreams and God is truly inspiring and I don't know where I would be if it were not for your courage to be vulnerable.  
You have given me the gift of being a magnificent display of the love of Father God. You just leek Jesus everywhere, your journey with your siblings and parents is so full of forgiveness it’s overwhelming. I thank you for walking the road so I won’t ever have to. Thank you for doing your absolute best and never giving up on me. Thank you for never letting up for always pushing me to do my best. You’ve led by example and it’s beyond imagination. 
You’re so creative and such creative ways, you’re creative in places you’d think there was no room for the spectacular. You are always going after the impossible and calling out to the souls like yours. 
You’re an amazing father and an incredible friend. Thank you for bringing me to Narnia and leaving me a love for the stories and impossibles of this beautiful world. 
Thank you thank you thank you a million times thank you.

September 1st, its the beginning of things. It’s the beginning of the end of the year. At least in my head September has always felt like the beginning of the end. I’m happy to know that the sweltering heat is nearly past and its almost sweater time. Learning

Over the years I’ve learned many things about myself and how I function. For example: if I need to force myself to wash my face I put on make up, because I figured out that the need to not sleep in my make up supersedes my laziness. I’ve discover lots of what I call hacks in my own functioning. As I’ve written about before I grew up struggling with depression, so one of my biggest challenges, even when I don’t feel depressed, is to get motivated. So I’ve found some of my own personal quirks that I can almost trick myself into doing the healthy things instead of relying completely on motivation. This is also true when it comes to my art.   I’ve learned that I can’t sit in my studio for hours on end, the most productive and best work is done in the first and second hour. Almost There

Nowadays it is the norm to go to collage or university even when you don’t know what you want to do. It’s preached go to school and figure it out while you’re there. It’s taught that your job is your life and it is all you really ought to try to achieve. Even as young as 14 this didn't sit right with me, I always dodged the questions. What do you want to be, what school do you want to go to, what would you like to do with your life. Because I learned from a young age that artist wasn’t the answer that they were looking for.   I learned to fly under the radar because I knew my dream would be easily crushed, but I am stubborn. So I did my best in school and then I made my great escape.
