What's the Worst that Could Happen

When did you fall out of love with me? It’s a question I’ve heard posed in song and read in the thoughts of many fictional characters. But not once have I heard it uttered in real human life. What if we did? What if we spoke the thoughts we think? Not just the ones we deemed valuable and rational though the standards of society, but the ones that keep us up at night. What if we told them?

What’s the worst that could happen.

That person finally knows how you feel about them. And maybe you feel the sting of rejection but I’ll tell you what, you’ll be over them before you ever thought possible. And then you’re free.

What’s the worst that could happen.

You finally admit why you’re kept up like an insomniac, aching for someone or something or somewhere you’ve never know. And that admittance gets you a few funny looks, but I’m sure to believe that at the very least there is one person who feels the very same.

What’s the worst that could happen.

Why do we leave it to the poets? Leave them to be the only ones who drive into the depths of emotion. Only to come out the other end looking far less human than ever before. Till we realize they’re more human than we ever were.

We’ve become too robotic in our pursuit to become worthy and successful. Deeming emotion to be but an inconvenience. They’re more important than we’ve designed to acknowledge and we will die without them. Die in the way that really matters. Because if all you value is striving to be just a bit more successful than you’re not living. You’re working.

What’s the worst that could happen?

The worst that could happen is staying here in this stale place made of broken dreams and hopeless beginnings. Always working, always striving, always just trying to make it to the next day still breathing. We were made for so much more than that meagre existence.

There is a better place, batter plan, better health just over the horizon and you all need do is take the first step. Choose the path out. That’s it. Just one step. Because taking the courage to do just that will be respected and honoured in more ways than you’ll ever be able to count.

What’s the worst that could happen.

There is a life to be lived and dreams to dream. Bridges to rebuild and flowers to plant. The possibility are truly endless when we choose to live. Not just survive but really truly live. We were made for more, of that I’m sure and if you can’t believe it for yourself I’ll believe it enough for the both of us. Because there’s somewhere out there waiting you, waiting for you to wake up and coming running with your arms wide open.

What’s the worst that could happen.

You trip and fall, feel some disappointment. If that’s the cost of living, the potential disappointment maybe even some pain, then we oughta get better at paying the price. Because this life is priceless. This life is worthy of your pain, it's worthy to be lived.

  1. This speaks to my soul! Thank you love. It is beautifully written and your voice comes through it loud and sweet! The use of repetition is so tactful here because every time I read, "What's the worst that could happen," it changes in perspective!
